I need a hysterectomy due to pelvic pain, fibroids, etc?
I am 45, and my doc thinks I should have the ovaries taken out so that my pelvic pain is resolved, and so that no future surgeries are needed. I am concerned about taking HRT but he assures me that it’s safe. Anyone have any advice for me? I am having this done laparscopically and robotically so my recovery time is cut in half. Well your surgery sounds much less complicated then the traditional abdominal hysterectomy I’d had done a few years ago. You mention that only your ovaries are going to be removed? Do they have a cyst or adhesion’s on them? Do you have Endometriosis? I”ve had that, and the pain is very severe. I think you’ll fly through the surgery and be happier afterward since your pain level will lesson dramatically. I take Estradiol for my HRT and I’m 42. This is a natural hormone that is way safer to use than a lot of the traditional hormones like Prevarin which is made from a Mare’s urine. Good luck with your surgery!

I had a complete hysterectomy about 2 weeks ago.The Dr had me start Premarin in the hospital because of hot flashes and a headache that wouldnt go away..he thought maybe the drop in estrogen was causing the headache.Anyway..I took just one Premarin and havent continued them at home.I have hot flashes but nothing I cant handle right now.I know your risks for heart attacks,stroke,and breast cancer are increased by taking HRT but what if anything is your risk of NOT taking any HRT?? I know 2 weeks isnt a lot of time to know how bad my side effects will be but right now I feel like I dont have any side effects,nothing to worry about anyway.
btw…Im 36…I had the hystrectomy because of heavy periods,fibroids,poly cyctic,and endometrosis [sp] that caused andometrosis which caused my uterus to be 3 times the normal size.
I had laproscopic surgery with the uterus removed vaginal. So recovery is going pretty well I think.

I had a complete hysterectomy at the age of 46 and was already having hot flashes. They put me on estrogen patches in the hospital and I used them for a year, but didn’t really like them. I decided to stop using them and do nothing and did that for another year, but the hot flashes got the best of me, also very nervous, jittery, lots of symptoms I didn’t enjoy. I started premarin and took it for 7 years but stopped when the breast cancer scare came out a few years ago. I personally think that the hrt helps with hot flashes, but more than that with the aging process of the skin, face, breasts and everything that estrogen provided before. I actually gained more weight after stopping the hrt, and ended up diabetic three years ago because of weight gain in the mid section. Estrogen protects women from getting a “beer gut” like guys tend to get, and the loss of it takes away that protection.It is totally your choice along with your doctor, but I am glad that I took advantage of the technology for a few years.
