Treatment For Large Fibroids

Natural Treatment For Fibroids-no Surgery

A natural treatment for fibroids which avoids surgery and drugs with unpleasant side effects would be the preferred option for the vast majority of women. However, on visiting a doctor, most women are only advised about conventional treatments such as hysterectomies or surgery which removes individual fibroids. Most doctors do not have any experience of natural treatments for fibroids but there are alternative practitioners who have found them to be highly successful in shrinking fibroids.

It is estimated that over half of all women have fibroids. For many, they never cause any symptoms and women never know that they have them unless they are discovered in either routine scans or when they are having trouble conceiving. However, for other women there is a very different story. The symptoms which can arise from fibroids can become quite unbearable and include bloating and heaviness, heavy periods, pain during intercourse, bowel and bladder problems and even infertility. In terms of size, fibroids can be as small as a pea or as large as a melon, so it is understandable how larger fibroids can cause problems.

Fibroids are very rarely life threatening and doctors prefer not to treat them unless absolutely necessary as surgery can be risky, and drug treatment can have unpleasant side effects. In addition, the only form of surgery which prevents uterine fibroids returning is a hysterectomy as they other methods, such as those which only remove individual fibroids are not permanent. Drug treatment is only temporary too-this is only normally used to shrink fibroids prior to surgery as once the drugs are stopped the fibroids regrow.

Knowing why fibroids develop is a good starting point when looking at natural treatments for fibroids. There are two main theories as to why they grow. Firstly, it is believed that some people are simply “prone” to inflammation within the body. This is thought to be hereditary. Secondly, some women have an excess of the hormone estrogen and this can both cause instigate fibroids and cause existing ones to grow.

The causes of the excess estrogen is particularly interesting, with many doctors believing that it is produced by excess fat cells (which is why overweight women are more likely to get fibroids) and by excessive pollutants which mimic estrogen. In addition, a general “imbalance” of hormones in the body can result in excess estrogen and it is thought that this is lifestyle induced.

Natural treatments to shrink fibroids include those which reduce inflammation within the body generally such as eating the spice Curcumin. Hops and Rosemary have also been shown to be beneficial and there is no denying that eating a good, healthy balanced diet will restore balance and prevent inflammation.

Exercise can also reduce excess estrogen as can maintaining a healthy weight. Liver detoxification is also another avenue worth exploring as toxins in the liver contribute to estrogen levels.

Chinese herbal preparations have also been used successfully as a natural treatment for fibroids in so far as they have been shown to be effective in aiding the self-cleaning of the reproductive organs. These in particular are mainly beneficial for stopping further growth but have been shown to reduce the size of fibroids in some cases.

There is evidence to show that fibroids begin to shrink naturally after the menopause but for many women, waiting that long just is not an option. They are simply not prepared to put up with the symptoms for many years.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    Ovarian cyst and fibroids?
Ive been having heavy periods and heartburn for awhile so my doctor sent me for an ultrasound which I’ve just come back from, the radiologist found a large fibroid pressing on my bladder and a large ovarian cyst on my left cyst, she said the cyst looks like it may be bleeding into itself and it was echoing back showing matter inside it,i’m really worried now, about the fibroid and the cyst and what treatment will be needed, my mum had a hysterectomy at 42 for fibroids and I’m 39 is it likely I will be the sane way, also I’m petrified of cancer too, can anyone who has had either fibroids or cysts offer some advice.
Thanks in advance a very worried person today 🙁

    • ANSWER:
I can understand your fear but you need to take a deep breath and try not to panic until you see the surgeon, which will hopefully be soon. I do know that most doctors will only consider a hysterectomy as a last resource, hopefully with one they may be able to remove it with out the womb. The cysts I would think can be removed by keyhole surgery. Until the doctors mention cancer I would not worry to much. I know it is hard but try to keep calm and speak with your doctor and get the facts before you worry about things and hopefully there will be nothing to worry about. email me if I can help in any way. Good luck

  2. QUESTION:
Large partially pedunculated fibroid leiomyoma 10.2 x 8.6 x 9.7 of the anterior uterus… HELP?
In a way I can tell I’m blessed why? In 2008 I used to blame myself and others who caused a car accident that I was in. I lost so much after that accident not being able to have the very good health and physic I used to have. From 162 no I weight 210. I went to so many doctors after my accident because my neck and back was really in pain. I finally found a doctor who did thank lord give me hope that everything could go back to normal. Until the other day my chiropractors to finish my treatment cause my insurance almost with no balance, he told me that he will MRI my back. When they did they found and confirmed that I had a herniated disc L5-S1 that this accident had make worst because a previous chiropractor told me I had a disc problem before 3 days before the accident etc… But that MRI for my back shows a growing mass inside my pelvic. They send me for a pelvic ultrasound. Also the days of the MRI my tummy to the right side move so much that was crazy and I was extremely dizzy. Result came like that:

    Age: 26
    Sex: Female

History: Pelvic pain with heavy menses.

Finding: utilizing a full urinary bladder as an acoustic window, the pelvis was evaluated and the uterus is in a normal anteverted/anteflexed orientation measuring 8.4 x 9.8 x 8.0 cm. The uterus contains a very large anterior complex leiomyoma, which measures 10.2 x 8.6 x 9.7 cm. The right and left adnexa are normal. There is no free fluid within the cul-de-sac.

Impression: There is a large soft tissue mass involving the anterior uterus almost certainly representing a large partially pedunculated leiomymoma, which measures 10.2 x 8.6x 9.7 cm. This is an otherwise normal study.

I had so many symptoms related to this now I realized when I make search, I though it was normal to have these symptoms or I was like that but I was in silence sick.

-when I crave too much sugar and eat really too much I have a gluant mucus think like mucus and clear going out my vagina with no smell, sometimes itch lightly. When I take the GSE grapseed oil it’s ok.
-under my skin all over my body something fell like stuff crawling.
-end 2007/start 2008 after doing a master cleanse I start noticing theses itch on my right side belly. And I was for 2 months on and off yeast infection diagnosed was Candida vaginitis.

    • ANSWER:
Fibroids are clumps of uterine extra tissue overgrowths, some do not cause any discomfort and the ones that are larger and that will need to be surgically removed through an incision like a c-section to basically go into the uterus . If you are 26 years old, and want children, make sure that they leave your ovaries, tubes and uterus intact and NOT TO REMOVE THEM and only remove the fibroids. However, if your doctor suggests that something be removed so the fibroids don’t come back and start growing again? Ask him what your options are. Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor all the questions you have. Make a short list and take it with you to your appointment. Be ready with some questions.

You will be OK. Have faith, and speak to someone at Social Security and start some benefits, you need to speak to a counselor, a dietician, and you need alot of support, emotional and medically. And try to have someone with you all the time, because you shouldn’t be alone in this.

  4. QUESTION:
I have not got any hot flushes for my menopausal symptoms. so is it true not all females?
get hot flushes. I will be 39 very soon. and currently I am under full investigation of a possible cancer of the uterus as I bleed sometimes, and spotted many times last year inbetween my irregular periods and bleed so much I almost lost my life in 2006 this is how this illness started. I was unawhere at the time, until now. My scans results show a growing uterus no I am not pregnant nor do I have fibroids or endrimetrioses. There is a large mass growing in my guts. and as I type this I am bleeding like a period. But I will be having treatment soon. I want to know if it is normal for this condition to bleed every few months with cancer? Please help. My doctor wanted me to go to the ER tonight but becasue I was so tired I did not go but if this keeps up in the morning I will go for sure. so if you can give me any advice that would be great.

    • ANSWER:
Cancer requires a large blood supply in order to proliferate (grow quickly). If you are bleeding….you could very possible loose too much blood very quickly. This could possibly happen while you are sleeping.
He wants you to go to the ER because of the high possibility you could be bleeding out. One major symptom of a large amount of blood loss is being tired….You should go to the ER. Being tired only confirms the suspicion.

  5. QUESTION:
Abdominal Myomectomy for Uterine Fibroid Tumors?
I have done my research, so I am really looking for answers based on the personal experience of other women. PLEASE, serious responses only.

Background: I’m 34 and I have uterine fibroid tumors, diagnosed by internal ultrasound. 2 of the 3 are quite large. 1 is pedunculated. I know that small, asymptomatic fibroids are commonly left untreated, but in my case, my doctor recommends removal because of the size and my symptoms. My symptoms include pain, enlarged abdomen, bladder/urinary issues, pain during intercourse and even tampon use, dysfunctional vaginal bleeding (like a period, but for 2+ wks of the month, in addition to my week-long, heavy period), etc. My doctor also recommends surgery because removal will increase my chances (from my current state) of being able to conceive later.

In my case, my doctor determined that the only surgery available to me is abdominal myomectomy. (There are less evasive treatments including medications and laparoscopy, but I do not qualify for them.) This surgery involves a 4-5″ horizontal incision in my abdomen and an incision in the uterine wall once the uterus is lifted out through the incision. If I am later able to conceive, and if I successfully carry a child near term, I will have to have a planned C-section birth a few weeks early due to the weakening of the uterine wall.

I know there are risks as with any surgery (blood loss, anesthesia issues, etc.). The possible complications for this specific surgery include infertilization, unexpected hysterectomy, excessive scar tissue, recurrence of the fibroids, etc. For me, my desire for a normal quality of life and my hope of having children both outweigh the risks.

    My questions are:

    (1) How long will this surgery take to recover (i.e., when may I walk and sleep without excruciating pain, return to the desk part of my job, exercise – cardio, situps)? My research says it takes 2-6 weeks to return to work, varying from person to person. I am healthy, relatively active, and have a fairly high tolerance of pain. Can anyone similar to me describe the approximate recovery time?

    (2) What other personal experience can you share (i.e., post-surgery pregnancy, infertilization, surgery complications, recurrence, pregnancy complications/miscarriage, etc.)?

    (3) If you did experience infertilization (not caused by unexpected hysterectomy), is In Vitro still an option?

    THANK YOU!!
