Getting Pregnant With Fibroids

If you are thinking about starting a family and are suffering from fibroids, you may well be wondering if getting pregnant with fibroids is difficult and what kind of impact it could have on your pregnancy.

Pregnancy is always a time filled with a mixture of excitement and anticipation, but it is also a worrying time, when we are concerned that everything is progressing just as it should. At this time, we do not need the added complication of fibroids to worry about.

For many women, getting pregnant with fibroids does not cause a problem, particularly if your fibroids are very small and not located in places which will inhibit conception. However, it is not just becoming pregnant that you must worry about as fibroids can sometimes cause issues during the pregnancy itself and at the time of the delivery.

Fibroids can affect your chances of becoming pregnant if they are particularly large or located at the entrance of the womb or near the fallopian tubes. Both of these locations can inhibit the passage of sperm, thus preventing it reaching and fertilizing the ovum. If fibroids are located under the lining of the womb (submucosal) they can sometimes prevent conception as they distort the shape of the womb lining, making implantation difficult.

Although getting pregnant with fibroids may not pose a problem, what you cannot anticipate is the effect they could possibly have on the developing pregnancy. Some women may go on to experience an early miscarriage due to fibroids and they may even cause an early labor or a cesarian delivery.

If you are not yet pregnant, it is sensible to think about what you can do to minimize the impact on the pregnancy and to prevent any problems becoming pregnant. Fibroids respond well to natural remedies and as these tend to be kind to the body, they would not be detrimental to a forthcoming pregnancy, unlike surgery or drug treatment.

About the author: Gail advocates using natural treatments for fibroids rather than using conventional medication or surgery as this is a workable long term solution. Conventional medication only treats the symptoms and fibroids are likely to regrow, whereas natural treatments, when used properly can eliminate the root cause by rebalancing the body and restoring overall health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the safest way to get rid of fibroids?
Is a hysterectomy statistically safer or is Uterine Artery Embolization safer?

    • ANSWER:
Well I suppose both have their risks. I believe the Embolization is a tool that gets rid of the fibroid (BUT it is not completly removed all the time- parts can remain and the fibroids may grow back). This can be unsafe if the doctor was dodgy and burned off something else. A hysterectomy would remove the uterus. This is what my mom had and would ensure that no fibroids would grow (because there is no uterus). This procedure involves incisions and so there is always a risk with surgery but generally it is a standard procedure and is a permanent solution (no chance of fibroids growing back). Also brings a different meaning to “missing your period”

ETA – hysterectomy will mean that you can’t have children anymore- remember to take that into consideration!

Is there any way to get rid of fibroids other than the recommended hysterectomy?

    • ANSWER:
I had the UAE that OldGrump mentioned. I have been very happy with the results.

There is also myomectomy, which removes only the fibroid(s) through surgery.

From what I observed on some fibroids boards, it seemed that UAE was better for numerous smallish fibroids, whereas myomectomy was better for one or two very large fibroids. I say this because I saw one or two people go with the UAE for very large fibroids and have health problems; however, some people who got myomectomies, they found far more and smaller fibroids than they thought.

There is a new treatment called HIFU which is a completely non-invasive treatment. I don’t know anything about this.

There is a medicine that can be used; however it basically puts the patient into an artificial menopause with ALL the associated problems.

Do NOT let your Gyno convince you that a hysterectomy is the only avenue of treatment. If she or he refuses to consider other treatments, get your gyno’s reasons and a second opinion. And a third one. Hysterectomies are severly overdone, at least in the U.S. and it’s one of the more profitable operations.

I need to know about a natural remedie to get rid of fibroids in the uterus?

    • ANSWER:
uterine fibroids are non cancerous muscle and cell tissue.there are tablets you can take to slow or sometimes stop the growth,if painful.the only other solution is surgery.maybe a naturapath could help ,but i know of no natural remedy
