Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How big is the scar from a myomectomy fibroid surgery?
I will be having myomectomy surgery sometime in August. Fibroids are 8cm and 2cm. I am worried about the scar and the recovery period. thanks

    • ANSWER:
I had mayomactomy in 2005 to remove 28 fibroids. My scar is as big a c-section surgery, about 6 inches. I think as you have only 2 fibroids, you may have a smaller scar.

  2. QUESTION:
how long does it to recovery from myomectomy fibroid surgery?
My fibroids are 8 cm & 2 cm and I am currenty scheduled for a myomectomy surgery. Is this the size required to have surgery, just wondering…..

    • ANSWER:
I jus had a myomectomy 11 days ago, my fibroids were 6 & 4 cm, I had it done because I had lots of pain and I want to have kids, the decision is yours, if you don’t have symptoms or any problem with your fibriods you are fine, but remember that they grow rapidly , you don’t want to wait for that.
My recovery is going very smooth, I haven’t had any complications and I feel fine. Can’t wait to try to get pregnant.

  3. QUESTION:
question about surgery for a large fibroid myomectomy?
I have a large fibroid 2x’s the size of my uterus, I want to have a child someday and keep my uterus. I was referred to a endocrinologist, anyone out there who know’s what I should expect? ie laproscopic removal or cut open surgery and what are the chances they’ll be able to save my uterus w/o doing a hysterectomy? thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Your endocrinologist should refer you to a surgeon, who can decide what your options are. That is certainly one big fibroid. I would think a laparoscopic procedure would be somewhat of a challenge.

  4. QUESTION:
Has any one had a laproscopic myomectomy done for fibroid removal? How was it? What to expect?
I am having surgery in a couple of weeks and I am so scared because I would be put to sleep. I want to know what to expect before and after. Thank You.
I am trying to get pregnant after the surgery.

  5. QUESTION:
What are the signs of a fibroid growing back after 3 months post myomectomy?
Cramping is becoming more severe after surgery. Cramps were bad before surgery but they are getting worse with each period after myomectomy.

    • ANSWER:
Most fibroids cause no symptoms. However, symptoms can be: excessive or painful bleeding during menstruation, bleeding between periods, a feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen, frequent urination resulting from a fibroid that compresses the bladder, pain during sexual intercourse, or low back pain. If you think your fibroids may be returning, please schedule an appointment with your gynecologist. If it is caught early enough, he/she may be able to prescribe a medication to shrink it’s growth. The visit will at least let you know what is going on and, if necessary, the doctor can prescribe something for the severe cramping.
