A fibroid is a benign uterine tumor composed of smooth muscle cells. They vary in size, shape, and location. They can be located within the wall of the uterus or protrude into the endometrial cavity or protrude externally into the abdominal cavity.They can grow quite large. When they do grow large they can outgrow the ability of the blood vessels supplying it to continue to supply it. Therefore parts of the tumor die, usually the center. When this happens they are called necrotic or degenrative fibroids.
There really is no major issue when this happens. If you have many fibroids or abnormal bleeding as a result of their presence you may be a candidate for surgical or endovascular therapy. Options include hysterectiomy, myomectomy, and uterine artery embolization.

I will be seeing gynecology next week, but I was wondering what some of my results mean.“a predominantly hypoechoic, solid, well defined mass measured at 3.4 x 4.2 x 3.2 cm. There is internal vascularity observed within this mass. It abuts and displaces of the endometrium”
Impression: Single solid myometrial mass that is probably a degenerating fibroid

The ultrasound found something in your uterus, but the doctor thinks it is just fibroids. In other words, it is not life-threatening, like a cancerous tumor would be. (Good news!)On the other hand, a degenerating fibroid can cause pain and pressure, so it is probably something you will want to have treated. It’s just not a critical emergency in the same way that a cancerous mass would be.

QUESTION:
Chance it’s ectopic pregnancy?
I had a tubal almost 6 years ago. My last period started 1/4/09. I saw my GYN 1/23/09 and I told her the last 6 months I had some mid-cycle spotting, she gave me a quick ultrasound in the office said she saw something small but couldnt make out what it was (she said polyp or degenerating fibroid), from where she was pointing I couldnt tell if it was in or out of my uterus, she ordered hysterosonogram which I have yet to get – no appts avail. I am not super late (I usually get my period within 28-30 days, its been 33) but I am wondering if I should call the dr and tell her my concern (will i sound crazy?), go buy a preg test (its so unlikely, right?) or just calm down & wait. Would it have been too soon to tell if it was a pregnancy in the ultrasound? Could it have been?-

If your doctor thought it was an ectopic pregnancy, he/she would probably have sent you for blood tests or ordered you to get a more in-depth u/s pronto. Ectopic pregnancies can be very serious, so if that’s what he thought it was, I think he’d have been very clear about it.

I’ve lost weight unintentionally-10lbs in the past month. I’m not complaining of course. Here’s a little history..I did have food poisoning 3 weeks ago.Past 2 weeks I’ve bn able to eat solids & I feel fine now. For the past 3mos my heavy menstral career went from 5days to 3days-Still not complaining:). Except that a year ago I went into ER & learned I had a degenerating pedunculated fibroid that was around the same time I started having 4bowel movements a day(#3). The doctors will not do any tests to verf besides surgery,they just say I’m too young & this is common for African women re: fibroids. I was curious in knowing if anyone has experienced weight loss & still healthy?-
