QUESTION:
What causes heavy menstrual bleeding for about a month?
Last month my period lasted about four weeks, I didn’t think much of it because it was very light and I figured it was just a freak thing. However, I have been bleeding for about four weeks and its a lot heavier and doesn’t really seem like it is going to stop anytime soon. I saw my doctor and she recommended I see a gynecologist so I called but they said that there weren’t any available appointments soon. I would kind of like to know what is going on and don’t want to have to wait that long so any information that you may have would be great.
Also i have not had sex ever so it’s not because of an abortion or a miscarriage or a pregnancy. I did recently get the HPV vaccine and my mom thinks it could be related but I checked some websites and it wasn’t one of the side effects.
I’m also getting blood clots about the size of a walnut with the shell so fairly big.-
ANSWER:
PLEASE!
Contact the gynecologist office again and relate to them whats happening in detail. Insist on an appointment within a week.

QUESTION:
Can hypothyrodism cause heavy menstrual bleeding, as well as bleeding between periods?
I went to the gynecologist the last time this happened (I bleed for two months). They did a pelvic sonogram said nothing was found. The gynecologist said it was probably due to me being overweight. A lot of overweight family members and friends say this has never happened to them. I am on 200mcg of synthroid. A month ago my TSH was in the 20’s. This is where it was when I was initially tested over a year ago, then I was put on 125mcg and it dropped my TSh was in the low teens.
Thanks for any info,-
ANSWER:
Sure it can. It can cause heavy bleeding and it can cause you to have 2 periods in one month to no period at all. Why not call your doctor and ask him to retest your thyroid. I know how a thyroid can screw up your period. My mother and both of my sisters have thyroid problems. Maybe your medication needs adjustment. Good luck hon:))
