Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Does anyone have fibroids if so how di it affect your pregnancy?
I had my first ultrasound today and was quite happy considering that I had minor brown spotting that resolved in less than 5 days and also passing what appears to be brown clotted dried tissue, but nevertheless teh Ultrasound was a success and I did hear my baby’s heartbeat and also saw my precious in the sac. For those who have experience spotting, I want to encourage you not to lose hope.
Perhaps the question was worded wrongly, but I am 8 weeks and 3 days pregnant and have been informed also that I have fibroids. Just want people who have been pregnant or are pregnant share with me their experience with having fibroids and how they affected their pregnancy.

    • ANSWER:
I have a fibroid. I was told it was going to grow right along with the baby. So would that in essence give me the feeling of carrying twins? Greeaaat *sarcasm*. The thing I am worried about is that I have read a fibroid can leech too much blood from the baby and so the baby will suffer and pass away.

They didn’t tell me how big it had gotten at last ultrasound but baby is still going good at 21 weeks. It is also on the back of the uterus which i guess is an ideal spot (not covering the cervix so far). I have heard of other women who had fibroids also and they were fine.

I would just keep an eye on it and try not to worry.

  2. QUESTION:
    Question about endometriosis and fibroids?
When I was younger 13-16 I had the most painful period cramps. I actually would pass out from the pain. My mom took me to a doctor a couple of times and I don’t remember them running any tests on me or being worried. They thought I could be anemic, but found that I wasn’t.

It’s not nearly as painful now, but lately I have been hearing about endometriosis and fibroids which can cause very painful period cramps. So my question is why did doctors not check me for these things?

    • ANSWER:
Because endometriosis tends to be something that grows in your body during your child-bearing years. It’s a lot less common in teenage girls.

However, I’ve had it my whole life (unfortunately). Sometimes you just need to keep going back and seeing doctor after doctor until you find one who will listen to you.

Of course, if your period is less painful now than it used to be, then your chances of having endometriosis are very slim. It generally gets worse with age, not better.

  3. QUESTION:
    Uterine Fibroids what causes them?
My neighbor told me that when she mensturates she sometimes pass large clots. She told me that sometimes it resembles pieces of liver which scare the hell outta her. How can she tell if she has fibroids, and if she can take something herbally to rid this problem?

    • ANSWER:
Yep i just had a hysterctomy 2 weeks ago. I had endometriosis and fibroids. I had clotting with my periods and some pain. She should see her gyn.

  4. QUESTION:
***Is there a chance of Fibroids at 23?
Last year I had an abortion. Not only was it a very difficult time but since then I started to get very bad pains in my right ovary. I was admitted into hospital last year with an apparent ruptured ovary although the doctor never did any further examination just gave me pain killers with morphine and sent me home. It continued on and off after that and now my symptoms are as below:

pain in abdomen particulary right side
    bloating
    pain during periods
pain now continues into the thigh/leg sometimes
    always need to urinate
    constipation
    haemorrhoids
    problems passing urine

Now ive got an ultasound coming up but its not till another 4 weeks so in the mean time im trying to get as much information as I can.

Any ideas guys what it can be? I know its highly unlikely to be ovarian cancer at 23 so I’m wondering if its fibroids?

    Thanks for the replies!

  5. QUESTION:
Uterine fibroids. Needing information. Warning – description of problem is rather graphic.?
I have two large unterine fibroids. This weekend I experienced what I would equate to hemorraging. I was on a road trip and we stopped so I could go to the bathroom to change. As I was walking to the bathroom to change pads, a large clot passed and blood began running down my legs. I was too humilated to go into the bathroom, so I told my husband we needed to stay in a hotel so I could clean up. The amount of blood was unimaginable. I am currently waiting on my insurance company to approve a surgery MRI guided ultrasound surgery a non invasive procedure- to alleviate the fibroids. What I want to know is whether there are any incidences where women have bleed to death from uterine hemorraging due to fibroids. I am getting ready to write to the CEO of my insurance because as I wait, this situation does not get any better, it only gets worse. I do not want to end up bleeding to death. I have done a google search and have not found anything conclusive about mortality rates related to this
Fibroid size answer – I have 4 1 is 6 cm, 1 is 4 cm, 1 is 3 cm and the last one is 2.5 cm

    • ANSWER:
There are reported cases- I know a person who was admitted to hospital unconcoius becasue she had bleed so much from her fibroids.
If your fiobriods are this bad, i doubt that non-ivaseive ultrasound treatment is going to work or at least be enough talk to your doctor about how bad these are getting and talk to them about your best option.
A lot of the MRI/ultrasound non-ivasive surgical treatments, which are more experimental, are less likely to be covered by your insurance company.
If you are taking anti-inflammatories for any pain, I suggest you stop taking them (after phoning your doctor), because these can increase bleeding.
If the insurance company wont operate, next time the bleeding gets so bad go straight to the ER.

BTW- I’ve always found phoning is better than writing- they have to give you an answer and you dont have to wait weeks for them to get to your letter in the mail pile
