Laser Fibroid Removal

  Laser fibroid removal

Fibroids are the innocuous tumors that are found in uterus. They are very prevalent among females throughout the world. They are more common in African American women as compared to any other. Black women have more probability of having fibroids as compared to whites.

Basically, they are benign tumors of uterus. Being benign, they are not involved in any cancerous activities. This is contrast with malignant tumors which are responsible for cancerous doings. They are more common in females who are older than 25 years. It is very unusual to have these tumors in teenage girls and post-menopausal women. Usually, they exist singly but can also be found in groups.

Fibroids vary diversely in size and can be very small as well as very large. Normally, they are so small that they get ignored by the patients. However, it is not very rare to have large-size fibroids. Fibroids that weigh up to 20 pounds are not very uncommon.

There are no definite symptoms of fibroids. Some of the common symptoms of fibroids include heavy periods, vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, constipation etc. Large-size fibroids put pressure on the visceral organ causing abdominal pain. These fibroids sometimes can also cause back pain. On the other hand, heavy menstruation can lead to anemia. It is a condition characterized by acute shortage of erythrocytes (red blood cells). It causes weakness, drowsiness etc. The patient should be given iron-enriched stuff so that her iron deficiency can be eradicated.

There are different schemes for the removal of fibroids. These techniques include hormonal therapy, surgery, herbal medicines, laser fibroid removal etc. All of these techniques have their own merits and demerits. Hormonal therapy employs various anti-estrogenic hormones to counter the effects of estrogens. These hormones successfully shrink the size of fibroids. However, it is not considered as a reliable method owing to its inability to prevent recurrence of fibroids. It also has various side-effects. Due to these disadvantages, it is not recommended solely. It is often used as precursor for surgical methods. Surgical methods involve the removal of either fibroids (myomectomy) or uterus (hysterectomy). Hysterectomy is usually not approved by the patients as it renders them infertile for the rest of her life. Herbal medicine is one of the various types of alternative medicine. It is very effective in treating fibroids as compared to various other methods. It has no side-effects and put a stop to the reappearance of fibroids. For instance, Vitex is one herbal medicine that has proven to be very successful at treating fibroids. Besides all these methods, laser fibroid removal has become a very effectual method for curing fibroid. It is a comparatively modern technique and its use is increasing day by day. Endometrial ablation is a method that removes the lining of uterus through laser. However, this method is recommended only for fibroids that are close to the inner lining of uterus (endometrium). Also, a very latest fibroid removal technique has been invented. This particular scheme is known as MRI-guided percutaneous laser ablation. It has proven to be very effective in removing fibroids.
