Of course someone can be totally cured this way–if there is no uterus left for a fibroid to attach itself to or to grow in, the condition will disappear,. The only downside to this is that she obviously will never be able to have children without a uterus. There is no viable alternative that I know of as a treatment for uterine fibroids, as these can eventually develop into cancer if left untreated, and I’m sure neither one of you wants THAT to happen!! (not to mention the damage that can occur to her kidneys & other internal organs!) PLEASE tell her to go ahead & have the surgery–it will not only save her from incredible future discomfort (read: AGONY!) but may also in the long run save her life!

I have a large fibroid in my uterus and do not want to get a hysterectomy, anyone had one removed?

I have uterine fibroids as well. Almost a year ago I had a laproscopic surgery to remove some endometriosis I had and althought it ended up painful for me (because my stitches wwent in and got an infection in my incision) it was not too bad besides that. The doctor did not remove my fibroids because he wanted to know for sure which one was causing my specific sort of pain. (Which it is much better by the way) And he said that if he were to remove the fibroids, he would do a laparotomy (A little bit bigger surgery than the laproscopic so it would require a little more down time.) Well, I don’t know if this was of any help, but I know I was happy of my decision to go through with my surgery.

I have personal knowledge,Persistent..knowledge gained from seeing many women fall victim to the myth that fibroids can be removed without surgery.
It IS a myth – not reality at all.Surgery seems drastic to all of us; that’s only natural. But, the truth of the matter is simply that fibroids don’t disappear any other way.

Sorry, but no.Did you tell the X-ray tech you might be pregnant? Every department I’ve seen always asks women who might even be CLOSE to childbearing age.
