They have no malicious intent and are not involved in any harmful activities. Normally, they are small in size and are innocuous. At times, fibroid become very large and become a real headache.
They can be located at various positions in the uterus. Fibroids are classified in to various types on the basis of their location. These types include intramural, cervical, sub-mucous and sub-serous. In intramural fibroids, the cells grow in the wall of uterus. This type is considered as the most widespread form of fibroids. Cervical fibroids are the fibroids that grow in the cervix (the neck of the womb). These fibroids are not as common as intramural fibroids. Complications in cervical fibroids can cause difficulties during delivery and can put the life of baby at stake. Sub-mucosal fibroids develop in the interior wall of uterus whereas sub-serous fibroids grow in the outer wall of uterus.
The origin of fibroids is still not known. Their growth is attributed to estrogen. Estrogen is to be blamed for an increase in the size of fibroids. Estrogen is produced by the female sex-organ and it influences a number of events. From the start of menstrual cycle (menarche) to the end of menstrual cycle (menopause), women produce estrogen. It implies that as long as women are menstruating, they will keep on producing estrogen and hence the sizes of fibroids keep on increasing. After menopause, woman no longer produce estrogen. Owing to this reason, there are no chances of development of fibroids in these women. Any tumor in these women is most likely to be cancerous.
Various treatments are available for fibroids include hormonal, surgical, herbal etc. Hormonal methods include the employment of anti-estrogenic drugs to counter the effects of estrogen. This reduces the size of fibroids. This method provides a temporary solution and has various side-effects. Also, it is unable to put a stop to future fibroids.
Surgical methods involve the removal of fibroids (myomectomy) or uterus (hysterectomy) from the body. It uses hormonal therapy as its precursor.
Herbal methods use herbal medicines for the treatment of fibroids. These methods have no side-effects and are renowned for averting the recurrence of fibroids. Fibroclear is considered as one of the very effective herbal drug for the treatment of fibroid.
