Anterior Wall Fibroid

What is an anterior wall fibroid?

Uterine fibroids, simply called fibroids, are benign tumors that get developed in their uterus. Uterus is the female organ of reproduction and plays a pivotal role during pregnancy. Medically, tumors reflect an abnormal and unwanted growth of cells. They are various causes of tumors. Generally, tumors are of two types i.e. malignant and benign tumors. Malignant tumors are cancer-causing tumors. These are characterized by metastasis. Metastasis is a phenomenon in which the tumors cells spread and invade the adjacent cells. On the other hand, benign tumors are non-cancerous, for the reason that their cells lack the ability to metastasize. Uterine fibroids are also classified as benign tumors.

Uterine fibroids are very much prevalent in women. One out of every five women, one necessarily develops fibroids between menarche (first menstrual cycle) and menopause (last menstrual cycle). Fibroids are not much common in teenage girls. It is very rare that females develop fibroids before 20. Also, it is not cosmopolitan and is mostly found in African American women as compared to white women.

The exact causes of fibroids are still unknown and a lot of work is being done on this subject. However it is believed to be somewhat linked to female hormone estrogen. Estrogen is a hormone that plays a significant role in menstrual cycle. So, as long as females are menstruating, there is a solid probability of the developments of fibroids.

Fibroids have a wide range of sizes from being microscopic to macroscopic. At times, they become so big that they cover the entire uterus. Most of the times they occur in groups but sometimes only one fibroid may develop.

Fibroids may be developed in the posterior as well as anterior wall of uterus. A fibroids that are developed in the anterior side is known as anterior wall fibroid. These fibroids are located at the back side of uterus and mostly they are not associated with any type of serious problem. They pose no serious threat, unlike the fibroids located at the opposite side. If these fibroids become a source of nuisance, you should consult your doctor so that he can help you. If he feels that they are really increasing the inconvenience of the patient, he may recommend the patient to a surgeon for its removal from the uterus. Surgical removal of fibroids is called as myomectomy. It allows women to maintain their fertility as compared to hysterectomy.

Keep in mind that anterior uterine fibroids aren’t very common. However, fibroids located in the neck of uterus can prove to be a severe headache. Such fibroids can cause complications during pregnancy and labor. Followed by the recommendation of doctor, these must be surgically removed as soon as possible to avoid any ill-effects. Sometimes, these fibroids may yield some devastating consequences like hysterectomy. Hysterectomy means the complete or partial surgical removal of uterus by a gynecologist. It is considered as the last option for the reason that after removing it, females get disabled from becoming mother. A few times, hysterectomy becomes inevitable as otherwise it may cause some serious threats to life of patient.
