Flaxseed and fibroids
Fibroids are tumors that get build in the uterus of females. These are benign tumors and are not involved in any sort of cancerous activities. They are very common among females who are older than 20 years. Caucasian women have fifty percent less probability of having fibroids as compared to non-Caucasian. Generally, they are more prevalent in African American women.
They vary considerably in size and can be microscopic as well as macroscopic. Generally, these are very small and don’t even get noticed by the patients. At times, fibroids become so large that they weigh up to 50 pounds but this is very rare. They normally range in size from .08 inches to 8 inches.
The answer to the question “Why fibroids develop” is still unfamiliar. The causes of fibroids are still unknown. In modern day, a lot of research work is going on this subject but still no success has been achieved. The development of uterine fibroids is related with the level of estrogen and progesterone in the body of female. Estrogen and progesterone are female sex-hormones that are produced by the female reproductive organ, ovaries. Most of the people know these hormones with respect to their role in sexual development of females. They are unaware of their significance in fibroids development. If truth is to be told, estrogen plays a leading role in the development of uterine fibroids. Greater the level of estrogen in the females, greater is the chances of developing fibroids. Women keep on producing as long as they are menstruating. The production of estrogen is halted, when the women reach their last menstrual cycle, known as menopause. After menopause, ovaries no longer produce estrogen. For this reason there is no likelihood of fibroids in women, when they have reached menopause. Any tumor in these women is most likely to be malignant i.e. cancer-causing.
Fibroids can be treated in a number of ways. One such method is hormonal therapy. Besides the fact this method effective shrinks fibroids, it is not the preferred one. Hormonal therapy doesn’t address the root cause of fibroids and is very much unable to prevent the recurrence of fibroids. Surgical methods are also adopted for the treatment of fibroids. These involve either the removal of fibroids or uterus. Surgery that removes fibroids is still unable to prevent the recurrence of fibroids. To prevent fibroids from occurring again, herbal methods are the most preferred one. These methods provide a permanent solution and have no side-effects.
