Fibroid Adenoma

Fibroid adenoma

Fibroid adenoma, normally known as fibroadenoma, is a benign tumor found in the breast  of women. They are most commonly found in young women in the age group of 15-30 years. It is very rare to have these tumors in women who have reached the stage of menopause.

These tumors are benign and are not related with any cancerous activities. These tumors represent abnormal growth of fibrous and glandular tissues. Women, who have fibroadenoma, feel that they have marbles in their chest.  They vary hugely in their size and can be microscopic as well as macroscopic. Normally their size ranges from 1-5 cm. In general, large fibroadenomas are about the size of lemon but sometimes they can be extremely large.  Most of the time, they occur one at a time. About 10-15 % of women have more than one fibroadenomas.

Although, a number of breast lumps diminishes during menstrual cycle, yet these tumors don’t. Fibroadenomas don’t disappear after the menstrual cycle. There should be proper checkup in such scenarios.

As mentioned above, fibroadenomas occur in single lumps but sometimes they can occur in groups. When they occur in clusters, a number of complexities can arise. It is widely believed that multiple effect of more than one fibroadenoma can increase the chances of breast cancer to some extent.

Detection of fibroids is not a very big issue. If the patient feels some round, rubbery, moveable and firm stuff in her breast, she must immediately consult her doctor. The doctor will have a physical examination of hers breast. The doctor will recommend her for a breast ultrasound or mammography for the confirmation of presence or absence of fibroadenomas. Mammography is the usage of particular X-rays for the identification of breast tumors. It is an X-ray image of the breast and really provides the right breast examination. It lends a hand in understanding the difference between benign and malignant tumors.

Although, fibroadenomas can occur in women during any stage of their reproductive cycle, yet they are much common in girls of the age group of 15-30. It is the most commonly occurring breast tumor among young women. Women, in the late ages, have very little chances of tumors. Likelihood of tumors further diminishes, after menopause. So, it is very uncommon that fibroadenomas materialize in older women. Therefore, any solid mass in grown-up ladies should be considered very seriously as most of the times it comes out to be malignant.  This is also for the reason that cancers are the most commonly occurring tumors in women, after the age of menopause.

The exact causes of fibroadenomas are still unknown. Their development is somewhat related with estrogen that is why they are more common in young women as compared to older ones. Due to diminished level of estrogen, the size of fibroadenomas decrease significantly after menopause.

Whichever method your doctor recommends for the treatment of benign fibroadenomas, you are supposed act upon a suitable diet plan. Reduce the consumption of fatty stuff and increases the content of fibrous food in your food intake.
